Catalyst Cymru - Heritage Fundraising is an exciting partnership between WCVA, CyMAL and the Funding Centre providing FREE fundraising training and advice for staff and volunteers in heritage organisations in Wales.

The project aims to build to help you build your confidence and effectiveness in fundraising from private donors, corporate sources and trusts and foundations.

If you're involved in one of the following you can benefit from the project:

  • Historic Environment
  • Landscape and Natural Heritage (historic gardens, wildlife, woodland)
  • Industrial, maritime and transport
  • Museums, libraries and archives
  • Intangible heritage (such as the preservation of memories, or oral history projects)

The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund Catalyst grants initiatives to deliver a fundraising skills building programme for heritage organisations across Wales.

The programme will benefit volunteers and paid staff in Wales's heritage organisations

Catalyst Cymru - Heritage Fundraising will help you to:

  • Be better informed and equipped to undertake your role in improving the funding and management of your organisation
  • Increase your skills, confidence and knowledge to fundraise from private (and other income sources) to sustain your organisation's future
  • Be more resilient and capable of securing appropriate and diverse funding sources

WCVA, The Wales Council for Voluntary Action, supports and represents Wales' third sector, by campaigning for voluntary organisations, volunteers and communities. 

MALD, part of Welsh Government, have part-funded Catalyst Cymru.

MALD helps promote and protect the culture and heritage of Wales by providing advice and support to local museums, archives and libraries in Wales on professional standards, expertise and skills, operating grant and develops research and baseline information across the sector. It also manages the policy and operational work relating to the sponsorship of the two national institutions - the National Library of Wales and Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales.

The Funding Centre, a fundraising consultancy, specialises in supporting cultural and heritage organisations in Wales.

They have worked with some of Wales's largest cultural and heritage organisations, such as the Wales Millennium Centre and National Museum Wales.


Catalyst grants initiatives form part of a broader partnership initiative between HLF, DCMS and Arts Council England (ACE). It aims to encourage more private giving to culture and heritage, and to build the capacity and skills of cultural and heritage organisations to
fundraise from private donors, corporate sources, trusts and foundations.

Catalyst Cymru - Heritage Fundraising is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund under the Catalyst initiative, which is also funding eight other partnerships:
